Abstract

Especially in grammar schools, new concepts of Science Classes emerge. The Science Class is an interdisciplinary teaching model for scientific promotion. This article gives an overview of one specific teaching concept of a Science Class in OWL and first results of an evaluation. The teaching concept is characterized by an additional lesson in science per school term. Besides the regular teaching, the students of the Science Class are offered a wide range of extracurricular offers like excursions and participation in after-school activities. A preliminary study examined the extent to which the concept of science classes promotes students' interest in the natural science at two test times (N = 122). A questionnaire was used as a survey instrument. However, the results of this preliminary study show that science classes do not promote all the presumed aspects of this study uniformly. The interest in natural sciences decreases between the test times. Based on the results, a Science Class specific curriculum will be developed.
